Cox, City of Chesapeake, & Synergy Host E-Waste Recycling Event Sat., Apr. 24, 8 am-5 pm at Greenbrier Mall

CHESAPEAKE , VA –In partnership with the City of Chesapeake and its Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council, Cox Communications is hosting is second electronics waste recycling event on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Greenbrier Mall in Chesapeake. For the second year in a row Synergy Recycling is the recycling agent for this program.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public throughout the Greater Hampton Roads region and beyond.

“April is often referred to as ‘earth month’…and in support and commemoration of this period, Cox is very pleased to join with the City of Chesapeake to sponsor this electronics recycling event. We have a very strong commitment to environmental protection and recycling,” says Gary McCollum, Cox Senior Vice President and General Manager. “The overall goal of our environmental conservation movement is to further reduce Cox’s annual carbon footprint by 20% by 2017.That’s no small order but we are committed to do those things that support, preserve and protect our environment.”

All electronic items are accepted for this event. The list of items accepted includes, but is not limited to, the following items:

  • CPUs, servers and other computers
  • Monitors (CRT and LCD based)
  • Computer mice, printers, cable, modems
  • Speakers, scanners, and other electronic peripherals
  • Networking hardware
  • Fax machines, answering machines
  • Copy machines
  • Power tools
  • Televisions, VCRs, CD players, DVD players, remote controls
  • Audio visual equipment
  • IPods, MP3 players, computer games
  • Microwaves and other small kitchen appliances
  • Cell phones, telephones, radios, CB radios, stereos
  • Calculators
  • As well as most other electronic items

"Participation in community projects such as litter control, recycling, and other beautification strategies are critically important if we want to maintain a premiere community, and I do,” said Mayor Alan P. Krasnoff.  "This program is one of city's priorities during Earth Month 2010 and I hope that everyone - and not just those who live in Chesapeake - will come to Greenbrier Mall to safely and properly recycle their electronic waste."
